The Cruising Insider

Best cruise lines for couples: romantic and honeymoon cruises for 2026 and 2027

Celebrity is the best cruise line for couples for most budgets: modern ships, better food than the mainstream lines and an adults-only pool area on every ship. Pick Virgin Voyages if you want no children aboard and a late night, Oceania if food and quiet come first, and Regent Seven Seas for a honeymoon where nothing is left to pay on board. The right pick depends more on how you like to spend an evening than on your age.

Book it if

  • You want several places in one trip without packing and unpacking.
  • Dinner is the main event of your day.
  • You can travel outside school holidays, when every ship has fewer children.

Skip it if

  • You want days of privacy. Ships are social, and balconies are close together.
  • You're on a tight honeymoon budget and want a suite. Suites at sea cost far more than a good hotel room.
  • One of you gets seasick and the other wants a small ship. Small ships move more.

How we picked

No cruise line sells couples-only cruises, so the best cruises for couples are ordinary sailings on the lines that put adults first. We ranked lines on the criteria in how we rate cruises, weighted toward food, bars and evening life, quiet space, cabins and how many children are likely to be aboard. These are editorial picks with a reason for each place, not scores. From-prices come from our monthly snapshot and show the date they were checked.

The best cruise lines for couples in 2026 and 2027

  1. Best cruise line for couples overall

Celebrity Cruises, Celebrity Beyond or another Edge-class ship

Why: A premium feel without luxury prices, better food and design than the mainstream lines, and an adults-only Solarium on every ship. The All Included fare bundles a drinks package and Wi-Fi, so the price is easy to compare.

Watch out: Celebrity runs a kids' program, so summer and holiday sailings carry families. Edge-class ships hold about 2,900 to 3,300 guests, and crew tips are extra.

From $166 per personChecked October 2026
  2. Best cruise line for young couples

Virgin Voyages, Scarlet Lady or Valiant Lady

Why: Nobody under 18 sails. Every restaurant and Wi-Fi are in the fare, there are no formal nights or set dinner times, and the evenings run late. It is the nearest thing at sea to a boutique hotel for two.

Watch out: Lively, not quiet, with a party feel on many sailings. Alcohol and a daily gratuity are extra, and the fleet is only four ships, so itineraries are limited.

From $175 per personChecked October 2026
  3. Best for food and a quiet ship

    Oceania Cruises, Vista or Allura

Why: Ships of 670 to 1,250 guests, with the specialty restaurants, Wi-Fi and gratuities in every fare and long days in port. New bookings are for adults only, so the ship stays calm.

Watch out: Fares are well above Celebrity's, evenings are low-key, and cocktails and spirits cost extra.

From $3,120 per personChecked October 2026
  4. Best luxury cruise line for couples

Regent Seven Seas Cruises, Seven Seas Explorer or Seven Seas Grandeur

Why: All-suite ships of roughly 500 to 820 guests, with drinks, gratuities, Wi-Fi, specialty dining and unlimited shore excursions in the fare. For a honeymoon or a big anniversary, you pay once and sign for almost nothing.

Watch out: The highest fares on this list, and flights are booked separately for U.S. and Canadian guests.

From $6,499 per personChecked October 2026
  5. Most romantic small ships

Windstar Cruises, Wind Spirit or another sailing yacht

Why: Sailing yachts of 148 guests and small ships of up to 312 that reach little harbors in the Mediterranean, the Caribbean and Tahiti. With so few people aboard, there are no crowds and the pace is slow.

Watch out: Casual, not luxurious, and drinks and gratuities aren't in the base fare. Small ships move more in rough water.

From $3,053 per personChecked October 2026
  6. Best Alaska cruise for couples

Holland America Line, Koningsdam or Nieuw Amsterdam

Why: Mid-size ships, a calm pace, live music in the evening and a deep Alaska program that includes Glacier Bay. Alaska is about scenery from the deck, and a quieter ship makes more of it.

Watch out: The crowd skews older and evenings end early. Drinks, Wi-Fi and tips are extra unless you add the Have It All package.

From $564 per personChecked October 2026
  7. Best first cruise for couples

Princess Cruises, Royal Princess or Sun Princess

Why: An easy introduction: a calmer big ship than the party lines, a Medallion wearable that opens your cabin door and handles payments, and a Honeymoon Package with Champagne, breakfast on your balcony and time in the thermal suite.

Watch out: The romance packages cost extra, as do drinks, Wi-Fi and tips unless you buy the Plus or Premier package. Ships carry about 2,000 to 4,300 guests.

From $29 per personChecked October 2026

Best cruise line for couples by age and style

Age is a weak guide. How you spend an evening is a better one.

  • Couples in their 20s and 30s. Virgin Voyages is the best cruise line for young couples who want restaurants, bars and a late night with no children around. On a tighter budget, Norwegian has no set dinner times, and a short Royal Caribbean sailing gives you the most to do on board.
  • Couples in their 40s. Celebrity fits best: livelier than the traditional premium lines, calmer than the resort ships. Our Celebrity vs Virgin Voyages comparison covers the choice between the top two picks.
  • Mature couples. Oceania for food, Holland America for long itineraries and live music. Viking takes only guests 18 and over and draws an older crowd. Our senior cruises guide ranks the lines for older travelers.
  • Couples who want no children at all. Only an adults-only line can promise that. See our adults-only cruise guide.

Honeymoon cruises: are cruises good for honeymoons?

Yes, for the right couple. A honeymoon cruise works when you want several places in one trip, meals arranged for you and one price to plan around after a costly wedding. It works less well if you want to be alone: the ship is shared, and port days have a schedule.

What to know before you book a cruise for a honeymoon:

  • Don’t expect a honeymoon discount. Royal Caribbean says it doesn’t offer special prices to honeymooners. On most lines the honeymoon rate is just the current public fare.
  • Honeymoon cruise packages are add-ons, not fares. Princess sells a Honeymoon Package with vintage Champagne, a gourmet breakfast on your balcony and time for two in the thermal suite, and separate Anniversary, Sweetheart’s and Proposal packages. They are extras you buy on top of the cruise.
  • A registry can pay for the extras. Royal Caribbean has a honeymoon gift registry, free to set up, where friends and family give parts of the trip, such as a suite upgrade or a dinner for two, in place of wedding gifts.
  • Leave a gap after the wedding. Sail two days or more after the wedding day, and arrive at the port city the night before. A delayed flight is the usual way to miss a ship.
  • Check the name on the booking. The name on your reservation must match your passport or ID on sailing day. If you are changing your name, book in the name your documents will carry.

The best honeymoon cruise line depends on budget. Regent Seven Seas is the pick for all-inclusive honeymoon cruises, Virgin Voyages and Celebrity for the middle of the range, and Princess for the lowest fare with honeymoon extras. Our all-inclusive cruise guide compares what each fare covers.

Anniversary cruises and vow renewals

An anniversary cruise is easier to plan than a honeymoon, because there is no wedding date to work around. Travel in the off-peak weeks and put the saving into a better cabin.

Princess sells wedding, vow renewal and proposal packages for ceremonies at sea, and an Anniversary Package with dinner for two in a specialty restaurant. Royal Caribbean also has packages for wedding ceremonies and receptions. Book these with the line well before sailing.

For a milestone year, the lines in our luxury and small-ship ranking are worth the higher fare: Silversea gives every suite a butler, and Seabourn includes drinks and every dining venue.

Best cruise destinations for couples

  • Greece and the Mediterranean. The best cruises in Europe for couples sail in September and October, when the sea is warm and the crowds are thinner. Look for itineraries with late departures or overnights, so you get an evening ashore. A Mediterranean cruise honeymoon needs a transatlantic flight and at least ten days. See our Greek islands cruise guide and European cruise guide.
  • Alaska. The best Alaska cruise for couples is a sailing on Holland America or Princess that includes Glacier Bay. An Alaskan cruise honeymoon suits couples who would rather watch whales than lie on a beach. Compare lines in our best cruise lines for Alaska.
  • Hawaii. Norwegian’s Pride of America sails a 7-day round trip from Honolulu with overnight stays in Maui and Kauai and no sea days. See our Hawaii cruise guide.
  • The Caribbean and Bermuda. The easiest and cheapest choice, with round trips from many U.S. ports. Bermuda cruises stay docked for two or three days, which gives you evenings on the island. See our Caribbean cruise guide.
  • Tahiti and small harbors. Windstar sails Tahiti on small ships. It is a long flight from most of the U.S., which suits a honeymoon more than a long weekend.

Short cruises and seven-day cruises for couples

Best short cruises for couples. Three- to five-night sailings are a low-cost way to try a cruise together. Celebrity Reflection’s short trips from Fort Lauderdale are among the few on a premium ship, and Virgin Voyages runs short Caribbean trips from Miami. Most other short cruises are on older mainstream ships with a party crowd. Our 3 to 5 night cruise guide ranks them.

Best 7-day cruise for couples. A week is the right length for a first cruise: long enough to settle in and to see three or four ports. From the Northeast, a Bermuda round trip avoids a flight. From the West Coast, a Mexican Riviera week from Los Angeles does the same.

Best first-time cruise for couples. Pick a seven-night round trip from a port you can drive to, on a mid-priced line, in a balcony cabin. Our cruise line rankings compare all ten major lines.

Couples cruise FAQ

What is the best cruise line for couples?

Celebrity, for most couples: modern ships, good food and an adults-only pool area on every ship. Virgin Voyages is the pick for couples who want no children aboard, Oceania for food on a quiet ship, and Regent Seven Seas for luxury.

Are there couples-only cruises?

Not on the lines we cover. The nearest thing is an adults-only line. Virgin Voyages, Viking and Oceania take only guests 18 and over, though Oceania still honors older bookings that include teenagers.

What is the best honeymoon cruise line?

Regent Seven Seas if the budget allows, because almost everything is in the fare. Virgin Voyages and Celebrity are the best mid-priced choices. Princess sells a Honeymoon Package as an add-on.

Do cruise lines give honeymoon discounts?

Rarely. Royal Caribbean says it has no special prices for honeymooners. Lines sell honeymoon and anniversary packages as paid extras, and some have a gift registry so guests can pay for parts of the trip.

Are there all-inclusive couples cruises?

The luxury lines come closest. Regent Seven Seas, Silversea and Seabourn include drinks and most extras, and Virgin Voyages and Oceania include restaurants and Wi-Fi. Our all-inclusive cruise guide has the details.

What is the most romantic cruise?

That depends on the couple. For scenery, Alaska or the Greek islands in September. For privacy and small harbors, a Windstar sailing yacht. For service and a suite, one of the luxury lines.
