Disney Dream cruise ship itinerary, restaurants and rooms

The Disney Dream is Disney's short-cruise ship: in 2026–2027 it sails mostly three- and four-night Bahamas trips from Fort Lauderdale, then from Port Canaveral, with a few seven-night Caribbean cruises. It has the AquaDuck water coaster and full kids' clubs, was refitted in 2024, and usually costs less than the newer Wish-class ships.

Book it if

  • You want a three- or four-night Bahamas cruise, the Dream's main route in 2026–2027.
  • Your kids want a water coaster; the AquaDuck runs around the top decks.
  • You'd rather pay less than on the Disney Wish for a similar-size ship.

Skip it if

  • You want the Mediterranean. The Dream's 2026 Europe season is over and its announced 2027 sailings stay in the Bahamas and Caribbean.
  • You want the newest venues and shows of the Wish-class ships.
  • Crowds bother you; up to about 4,000 guests sail with every berth full.

The Disney Dream was built by Meyer Werft in Papenburg, Germany, and was the first of Disney’s two Dream-class ships. It was christened on January 19, 2011, and sailed its maiden voyage to Nassau and Castaway Cay on January 26, 2011. It measures 129,690 gross tons and 1,115 feet, with 1,250 staterooms: about 2,500 guests at double occupancy, up to 4,000 with every berth filled, and about 1,460 crew. Its sister, the Disney Fantasy, followed in 2012.

Disney Dream cruise ship exterior

From outside, the Dream has the dark hull and red funnels of every Disney ship. It is about 40% larger than the older Disney Magic and Disney Wonder, and the atrium inside has an Art Deco chandelier 22 feet across. Look up at the forward funnel and you’ll see the clear tube of the AquaDuck, a 765-foot water coaster that runs through the funnel and swings out about 20 feet over the side of the ship. Since the 2024 refit, that same funnel also holds a suite.

What changed in the 2024 refit?

The Dream went into dry dock in Europe at the end of its summer 2024 season and came back before the 2024–25 winter. The refit added the Dream Tower Suite inside the forward funnel, themed to Fantasia, a Concierge lounge inspired by Hercules, a Mexican cantina-style restaurant, a Marvel-themed area in the Oceaneer Club, a new deck 5 home with an outdoor deck for the Edge tween club, and a refreshed spa.

Who it suits

First-time Disney families. A three- or four-night Bahamas trip is the cheapest way to try Disney’s rotational dining, characters and kids’ clubs, and the Dream sails more of those trips than any other route in 2026–2027.

Families on a budget by Disney standards. It has a water coaster and full kids’ clubs, and it usually costs less than the Wish-class ships for the same length of trip.

Who should look elsewhere: adults-only groups, and anyone who wants a week or longer at sea. See our adults-only picks, or the Disney Treasure for seven-night trips on a newer ship.

Disney Dream cruise ship restaurants

The Dream has three main restaurants, and you rotate between them with the same servers each night: Enchanted Garden on deck 2, Royal Palace on deck 3, and Animator’s Palate at the back of deck 3, where dinner includes the Turtle Talk with Crush show. These are included in the fare.

The two adults-only restaurants, Palo (northern Italian) and Remy (French), sit at the back of deck 12 and carry an extra charge. The 2024 refit added a Mexican cantina-style restaurant. Quick-service food, the buffet and soft drinks at the drink stations are included, while alcohol, Wi-Fi, gratuities and the spa are extra, as across the Disney fleet.

Activities and kids’ clubs

  • AquaDuck: the water coaster over four decks, plus pools and splash areas on the top decks.
  • Walt Disney Theatre: a 1,340-seat theater for the Broadway-style Disney shows. The Buena Vista Theatre shows films.
  • Kids’ clubs: the “it’s a small world” nursery for babies from 6 months to 3 years, the Oceaneer Club and Lab for younger children, Edge for ages 11 to 14 and Vibe for teens 14 to 17.
  • Deck sports: mini golf, a walking track, sports simulators and a basketball court.

Which Disney Dream cruise rooms are best?

The best Disney Dream rooms for most families are midship verandah rooms on a deck with staterooms above and below, away from lift lobbies and service doors. If you get seasick, book low and in the middle of the ship. Many inside rooms have a virtual porthole, a screen showing a live view from outside.

Avoid or think twice:

  • Deck 10, directly under the pool deck, where deck chairs are moved early in the morning, according to DCL Guide.
  • Deck 5 aft, above the adults-only nightlife area, where bass can carry late into the night.
  • Aft rooms on decks 2 to 5, which can vibrate when the thrusters run as the ship docks.
  • Obstructed Navigator’s Verandahs: DCL Guide lists 5024, 5524, 6178, 6678, 7182, 7680, 8176 and 8674 on the Dream and Fantasy as having beams, lifeboat rigging or overhangs in the view. These are reader-reported, so check the deck plan before you book any Navigator’s Verandah.

Does the Disney Dream do Mediterranean cruises?

Not in 2027. The Disney Dream sailed Europe in summer 2026: a 14-night crossing from Fort Lauderdale to Barcelona, seven- to twelve-night Mediterranean cruises from Barcelona and Civitavecchia (Rome) to ports such as Santorini, Mykonos and Rhodes, and a final run of three- to seven-night trips from Southampton to Norway and Northern Europe. For 2027, Disney sends the Disney Wish to Europe instead (see our Disney cruises 2027 guide and our Europe cruise guide).

Sister ships

The Dream’s only sister is the Disney Fantasy (2012). The two share a layout and most restaurants, but the Fantasy has Royal Court where the Dream has Royal Palace, and it sails more longer Caribbean trips. The newer Disney Wish carries a similar number of guests, with newer venues and higher fares. Compare Disney with other family lines in our family cruise picks.

From Fort Lauderdale on three- to six-night Bahamas and seven-night Eastern Caribbean cruises in winter 2026–27, from San Juan in April 2027, from Port Canaveral on three- and four-night Bahamas cruises from spring to fall 2027, and from Fort Lauderdale again from November 2027.

How big is the Disney Dream?

129,690 gross tons and about 1,115 feet long, with 1,250 staterooms. It carries about 2,500 guests at double occupancy, up to 4,000 at full capacity, and about 1,460 crew.

The rotational restaurants are Enchanted Garden, Royal Palace and Animator’s Palate. Palo and Remy are adults-only and carry an extra charge. A Mexican cantina-style restaurant was added in the 2024 refit.

Was the Disney Dream refurbished?

Yes. It went into dry dock in Europe after its summer 2024 season. The work added the Dream Tower Suite in the forward funnel, a new Concierge lounge, a Mexican cantina-style restaurant, a Marvel area in the Oceaneer Club, a new space for the Edge tween club and a refreshed spa.

Is the Disney Dream good for a first Disney cruise?

For most families, yes. Its three- and four-night trips are the cheapest way to try Disney’s rotational dining, kids’ clubs and private-island days. Pick a Wish-class ship if you want the newest venues and shows.
