Celebrity Eclipse cruise ship: where it sails and who it suits

Celebrity Eclipse is a 2010 Solstice-class ship with about 2,852 guests, refreshed in a 2025 dry dock. It spends winters on 9- to 12-night Southern Caribbean cruises from Fort Lauderdale and summer 2027 on British Isles, Norwegian fjords and Scandinavia cruises from Amsterdam. Book it for long, port-heavy itineraries on a calm, mid-size premium ship.

Book it if

  • You want 9 to 12 nights in the Southern Caribbean from Fort Lauderdale, with islands such as Antigua, St. Lucia and St. Kitts.
  • You want a summer 2027 Northern Europe cruise from Amsterdam: 7-night Norwegian fjords, 12-night Scandinavia or 12- and 13-night British Isles.
  • You like a mid-size ship with half an acre of real grass on the top deck.

Skip it if

  • You want Edge-class features such as Infinite Verandas or the Magic Carpet; Eclipse is the older design.
  • Your kids want water slides; Eclipse has none.
  • You want a 3- to 5-night trip; nearly all its sailings are 7 nights or longer.

Meyer Werft in Papenburg, Germany, built Celebrity Eclipse as the third of five Solstice-class ships. It was delivered on April 15, 2010, and christened in Southampton on April 24, 2010, with British yachtswoman Emma Pontin as godmother. It is about 1,040 feet long and 121,878 gross tons, with about 1,271 crew. Days before its christening it made an unplanned run from Southampton to Bilbao to bring home about 2,000 British travelers stranded in Spain by the Iceland ash cloud.

A three-week dry dock at Damen in Brest, France, in spring 2025 added ten inside cabins, a Retreat Lounge on Deck 5 and a Retreat Solarium on Deck 16, along with new carpets and furniture. The ship now sails with Starlink internet.

Where does Celebrity Eclipse sail in 2026–2027?

Celebrity Eclipse spends winter in the Southern Caribbean from Fort Lauderdale and summer 2027 in Northern Europe from Amsterdam, with Mediterranean cruises and transatlantic crossings in between. Almost every sailing is 9 nights or longer, which makes it one of Celebrity’s best ships for travelers who want more ports per trip.

  • Fall 2026: Mediterranean, then the crossing. An 11-night Greece, Italy and France cruise from Piraeus (Athens), then a 14-night Spain and Bermuda transatlantic from Barcelona in November. Our transatlantic cruise guide explains these one-way trips.
  • December 2026 to April 2027: Southern Caribbean. 9- to 12-night cruises from Fort Lauderdale to islands such as Antigua, St. Lucia, St. Kitts, Dominica, St. Maarten and St. Thomas, plus a 12-night holiday cruise and one 5-night Western Caribbean trip in January. See our Caribbean cruise guide.
  • May to August 2027: Northern Europe from Amsterdam. 7-night Norwegian fjords, 12-night Best of Scandinavia cruises to Oslo, Stockholm, Tallinn, Helsinki and Copenhagen, and 12- and 13-night British Isles cruises. Our Northern Europe cruise guide compares the routes.
  • September to November 2027: south again. A 9-night France, Spain and Portugal cruise from Amsterdam, a 10-night Italy and Greece cruise from Barcelona, then Greek Isles and Croatia cruises from Piraeus and Ravenna before a 15-night transatlantic from Barcelona.
  • Winter 2027–28 and summer 2028: back to 9- to 13-night Southern Caribbean cruises from Fort Lauderdale, then a summer of 9- and 10-night Mediterranean cruises from Barcelona and Civitavecchia (Rome).

Is a Celebrity Eclipse cruise good for Northern Europe?

Yes, if you want a mid-size premium ship and a choice of route from one port. In summer 2027 Eclipse runs fjords, Baltic and British Isles cruises from Amsterdam, so you can pick a 7-night taste or a 12- or 13-night trip. The trade-off is the older design: no Infinite Verandas and fewer new venues than Celebrity Apex, which sails Northern Europe from Southampton.

Amsterdam is easy to reach on a direct flight from many US cities, and the 12-night sailings cover more capitals than most one-week cruises can. If you want a newer ship on similar routes, compare Celebrity Apex.

Who it suits

Couples and older travelers. Eclipse is built around restaurants, bars and quiet outdoor space rather than rides, and its longer itineraries draw an older, port-focused crowd.

Travelers who want more islands. Its 9- to 12-night Southern Caribbean cruises reach islands that 7-night trips from Florida rarely have time for.

Spa and suite travelers. AquaClass rooms come with Blu, a restaurant for AquaClass guests. Suite guests get The Retreat, with a private restaurant and a 24-hour lounge, and since 2025 a Retreat Solarium.

Who should look elsewhere: families with young children who want slides and big attractions, and anyone who wants a short cruise. Celebrity’s newer ships, such as Celebrity Beyond, have more of the line’s latest venues. See our couples cruise guide for other adult-leaning options.

What is inside Celebrity Eclipse?

  • The Lawn Club: about half an acre of real grass on the top deck, used for lawn games.
  • The Retreat: the suite area, with a private restaurant and a 24-hour lounge; the 2025 dry dock added the Retreat Lounge and a Retreat Solarium.
  • Blu: the restaurant for AquaClass guests.
  • Bars: the Passport Bar, the Martini Bar and the World Class Bar among them.
  • The Spa, and a menu designed by Celebrity’s culinary ambassador, Daniel Boulud.

Celebrity Eclipse cabins: which to pick and which to avoid

Most rooms are verandas, alongside oceanviews, insides, AquaClass and Concierge Class rooms, and suites up to the Penthouse Suite.

Pick:

  • Midship cabins on Decks 7 and 8 for the best mix of quiet and stability, with cabins above and below.
  • Aft-facing cabins if you want a wake view and a larger balcony, and don’t mind some vibration.
  • Lower midship cabins if you get seasick; they move least.

Avoid or think twice:

  • Partial-view verandas on Deck 6, where the lifeboats below can block the view. Check the category says “Partial View” before you pay a full veranda fare.
  • Deck 3 cabins under the theater, nightclub and casino, if you’re a light sleeper.
  • Cabins directly under the pool deck or the Oceanview Café, where loungers, carts and foot traffic start early.
  • Forward cabins if you’re prone to seasickness.
  • One half of a connecting pair, since the connecting door lets noise through.

Dining and activities

The main dining room, the Oceanview Café buffet and casual spots are included; some specialty restaurants carry a charge. Drinks, Wi-Fi and crew tips are extra unless you book an All Included fare. Our Celebrity line guide explains the fares and how they compare.

Days at sea center on the pool deck, the Lawn Club and the spa; evenings on the theater and the bars. For how Celebrity compares with its rivals, see Celebrity vs Princess and our Celebrity review.

Sister ships

Eclipse is the third of five Solstice-class ships. Celebrity Solstice (2008) and Celebrity Equinox (2009) came before it; Celebrity Silhouette (2011) and Celebrity Reflection (2012) followed. Reflection is the largest of the five.
