It spends the southern summer on 14-night Patagonia and Antarctica cruises from Buenos Aires and the rest of 2027 on 9- to 11-night Mediterranean cruises from Barcelona and Rome. In 2028 it moves to Alaska for the first time. Book it for long, port-heavy trips.

Meyer Werft in Papenburg, Germany, built Celebrity Equinox as the second of five Solstice-class ships. It was launched on June 6, 2009, and made its maiden voyage on July 31, 2009, with Nina Barough as its sponsor. It is about 1,041 feet long and 121,878 gross tons, with about 1,250 crew.
In May 2019 Equinox became the first Solstice-class ship to go through Celebrity’s fleet-wide refit program, in a 29-day dry dock in Cadiz, Spain. The work added The Retreat for suite guests, with a Retreat Lounge and a Retreat Sundeck, and brought in Craft Social, a bar with more than 40 craft beers, wine and cocktails. Le Petit Chef dining arrived in Qsine, the Passport Bar was redesigned and every cabin was refreshed. The ship now sails with Starlink internet.

Can you go to Antarctica on Celebrity Equinox?
You can see Antarctica, but you can’t land there. Equinox carries far more guests than the rules allow ashore, so its 14-night Antarctica cruises from Buenos Aires offer scenic cruising instead, with Celebrity listing Paradise Bay and Elephant Island. They run in January, the height of the southern summer.
For a first look at the ice at a big-ship price, that is a fair trade. If stepping ashore matters, you need an expedition ship with 500 guests or fewer; our Antarctica cruise guide explains the difference and the lines that land.
Is Celebrity Equinox going to Alaska?
Yes, in 2028, for the first time. Celebrity says Equinox will sail 7-night one-way cruises between Vancouver and Seward, joining Celebrity Edge and Celebrity Millennium for a three-ship Alaska season, with optional land tours to Denali. Sailings on CruiseBound run from May to September 2028, nearly all with Hubbard Glacier, and some add Dawes Glacier.
Our Vancouver cruise port guide covers the terminal. For the whole region, see our Alaska cruise guide. Equinox also sails Hawaii round trips from Los Angeles in spring and fall 2028; see our Los Angeles cruise port guide.
Who it suits
Couples and older travelers. Equinox is built around restaurants, bars, the spa and quiet outdoor space, and its long itineraries draw a port-focused crowd.
Travelers who want a long trip. Its South America cruises are 14 nights, and most Mediterranean cruises are 9 to 11 nights.
Suite travelers. Since 2019, suite guests get The Retreat, with a private lounge and a sundeck.
Who should look elsewhere: families with young children who want slides and big attractions, and anyone who wants a short cruise. Celebrity’s newer ships, such as Celebrity Beyond, have more of the line’s latest venues.
What is inside Celebrity Equinox?
- The Lawn Club: real grass on the top deck, between the funnels.
- The Retreat: the suite area added in 2019, with the Retreat Lounge and the Retreat Sundeck.
- Craft Social: a casual bar with craft beer and comfort food, added in 2019.
- Tuscan Grille, and Le Petit Chef, an interactive dining experience in Qsine.
- Slush, a pool deck bar for frozen cocktails, and Chef’s Table by Chef Daniel Boulud.
Celebrity Equinox cabins: which to pick and which to avoid
Most rooms are verandas, on Decks 6 to 9. AquaClass rooms are all on Deck 11, near the spa, and Concierge Class rooms are on Decks 9 to 12. The suites run from aft Sky Suites to the two Penthouse Suites midship on Deck 11, and there are four two-bedroom Family Verandas forward on Decks 7 and 8.
Pick:
- Midship veranda cabins for the best mix of quiet and stability; on a 14-night South America cruise, where seas off Patagonia can be rough, that matters.
- Aft Sky Suites or Sunset Verandas if you want a wake view, and don’t mind some vibration.
- AquaClass on Deck 11 if you plan to use the spa every day.
Avoid or think twice:
- Verandas with views blocked by lifeboats. Check the category says “Partial View” or “obstructed” before you pay a full veranda fare.
- Cabins directly under the pool deck or the buffet, where loungers, carts and foot traffic start early.
- One half of a connecting pair, since the connecting door lets noise through.
- Forward cabins if you’re prone to seasickness.
Dining and activities
The main dining room, the Oceanview Café buffet and casual spots are included; some specialty restaurants carry a charge. Drinks, Wi-Fi and crew tips are extra unless you book an All Included fare. Our Celebrity line guide explains the fares.
Days at sea center on the pool deck, the Lawn Club and the spa; evenings on the theater and the bars. For how Celebrity compares with its rivals, see Celebrity vs Princess and our Celebrity review.
Sister ships
Equinox is the second of five Solstice-class ships. Celebrity Solstice (2008) came first; Celebrity Eclipse (2010), Celebrity Silhouette (2011) and Celebrity Reflection (2012) followed. All five have the Lawn Club and a similar layout.
Celebrity Equinox FAQ
Where does Celebrity Equinox sail from?
From December to March it sails from Buenos Aires. From spring to fall 2027 it sails from Barcelona and Civitavecchia (Rome). In 2028 it adds Los Angeles, Vancouver and Seward.
When was Celebrity Equinox last refurbished?
In May 2019, in a 29-day dry dock in Cadiz, Spain. It added The Retreat, Craft Social and Le Petit Chef, and refreshed every cabin.
How big is Celebrity Equinox?
About 121,878 gross tons and 1,041 feet long, with about 2,852 guests and 1,250 crew. That makes it mid-size by today’s standards, smaller than Celebrity’s Edge-class ships.
Does Celebrity Equinox sail the Caribbean?
Not in 2026–27. Its current schedule is South America in the southern summer and the Mediterranean the rest of the year. For Celebrity Caribbean cruises, look at Celebrity Silhouette or Celebrity Reflection.
How do I find cheap Celebrity Equinox cruises?
In our October 2026 snapshot, the lowest Equinox fares were on its shortest sailings: the 7- and 8-night Mediterranean cruises from Barcelona in November 2027, and the first and last 7-night Alaska cruises of the 2028 season. An inside cabin cuts the fare further. Prices are a dated snapshot, so check the current fare before you book.
