Celebrity Solstice cruise ship: where it sails and who it suits

Celebrity Solstice is the 2008 lead ship of the Solstice class, with about 2,852 guests, and in early 2026 it became the first of its class to get Celebrity's big makeover. It spends the northern winter in Australia and Asia, and summer 2027 on 7-night Alaska cruises between Vancouver and Seward. Book it for long trips in the Pacific.

Book it if

  • You want a 7-night one-way Alaska cruise between Vancouver and Seward from May to September 2027.
  • You want a 12- to 15-night Thailand and Vietnam cruise from Singapore or Hong Kong, or an Australia and New Zealand cruise from Sydney.
  • You want an older ship's prices with newly added venues such as Trattoria Rossa, Fine Cut Steakhouse and Sunset Park.

Skip it if

  • You want the real-grass Lawn Club; the 2026 refit replaced it with Sunset Park on artificial turf.
  • You want an Alaska round trip from Seattle; Solstice sails one-way between Vancouver and Seward.
  • You want an Alaska cruise in 2028; our snapshot has Solstice in Japan that summer.

Meyer Werft in Papenburg, Germany, built Celebrity Solstice as the first of five Solstice-class ships and Celebrity’s first ship too wide for the old Panama Canal locks. It was floated out on August 10, 2008, named at Port Everglades on November 14, 2008, by the ocean scientist Sharon L. Smith, and entered service on November 23, 2008. It is about 1,041 feet long and 121,878 gross tons, with about 2,852 guests, 1,250 crew and 19 decks.

What changed in the 2026 refit?

From January 15 to March 2, 2026, Solstice spent just over six weeks in dry dock at Seatrium’s yard in Singapore. It was the first Solstice-class ship in Celebrity’s new renewal program, and the work changed more than the earlier refits on its sisters:

  • Sunset Park replaced the Lawn Club on the top deck. It uses artificial turf instead of real grass, with yoga, lawn games, live music, private cabanas and a Sunset Park Café for breakfast and lunch.
  • Trattoria Rossa, an Italian restaurant new to Celebrity, and Fine Cut Steakhouse, brought over from the Edge-class ships.
  • Boulevard Lounge, a 125-seat lounge for piano singalongs, karaoke and game shows, and The Parlor, with billiards, darts and big screens.
  • Two new production shows in the theater, Smoke and Ivories and Rockumentary.
  • 54 more cabins, in four new categories, including Panoramic suites, bringing the ship to 1,479 cabins. Every existing cabin was updated, AquaClass was expanded and The Retreat gained a new sundeck.

Is a Celebrity Solstice Alaska cruise a good choice?

Yes, if a one-way trip suits you. In 2027 Solstice alternates 7-night northbound cruises from Vancouver to Seward with southbound cruises from Seward to Vancouver, from May to early September. One-way routes cross the Gulf of Alaska, which round trips don’t, and Celebrity sells them as glacier cruises, but you fly home from a different city.

Seward is the port for Anchorage, linked by road and the Alaska Railroad, so plan the transfer when you book flights. Our Vancouver cruise port guide covers the terminal, and our Alaska cruise guide compares the lines and routes. Celebrity’s other Alaska ships in 2027 are Celebrity Edge and Celebrity Summit.

Who it suits

Couples and older travelers. Solstice is built around restaurants, bars, the spa and outdoor space, with no slides or thrill rides.

Travelers who want a long trip. Outside Alaska, most of its sailings are 11 nights or longer.

Value hunters who still want something new. After the 2026 refit, it has restaurants and lounges its older sisters don’t, at Solstice-class fares.

Who should look elsewhere: families who want big attractions, and anyone who wants Celebrity’s newest design; for that, look at Celebrity Xcel.

Celebrity Solstice cabins: which to pick and which to avoid

Most rooms are verandas, on Decks 6 to 9. Concierge Class rooms are on Decks 9, 10 and 12, and AquaClass rooms are on Decks 10 and 11, near the spa. Most of the new Panoramic suites from the 2026 refit are on Deck 15, the Sunset Park deck.

Pick:

  • Midship veranda cabins for the best mix of quiet and stability; on long Pacific crossings with many sea days, that matters.
  • AquaClass if you plan to use the spa daily and want dinner at Blu, the AquaClass restaurant.
  • A Panoramic suite on Deck 15 if you want one of the new rooms, close to the top-deck park.

Avoid or think twice:

  • Partial-view verandas, where a lifeboat blocks part of the view. Check the category says “Partial View” before you pay a full veranda fare.
  • Cabins directly under the pool deck or the buffet, where loungers, carts and foot traffic start early.
  • Forward cabins if you’re prone to seasickness.

Dining and activities

The main dining room, the Oceanview Café buffet and casual spots are included; some specialty restaurants carry a charge, and Celebrity’s page also lists the Chef’s Table by Chef Daniel Boulud for Solstice. Drinks, Wi-Fi and crew tips are extra unless you book an All Included fare. Our Celebrity line guide explains the fares, and Celebrity vs Princess compares the two in Alaska.

Sister ships

Solstice is the first of five Solstice-class ships. Celebrity Equinox (2009), Celebrity Eclipse (2010), Celebrity Silhouette (2011) and Celebrity Reflection (2012) followed. The layout is similar, but since 2026 only Solstice has Sunset Park, Trattoria Rossa and the new Panoramic suites.

Celebrity Solstice FAQ

Where does Celebrity Solstice sail from?

In 2026–27, from Sydney, Singapore and Hong Kong in the northern winter, and from Vancouver and Seward for Alaska from May to September 2027. In 2028 it adds Yokohama (Tokyo) for a Japan season.

When was Celebrity Solstice refurbished?

From January 15 to March 2, 2026, in Singapore. The refit added Sunset Park, Trattoria Rossa, Fine Cut Steakhouse, Boulevard Lounge, The Parlor and 54 cabins.

Does Celebrity Solstice still have the Lawn Club?

No. The 2026 refit replaced it with Sunset Park, which uses artificial turf. The other four Solstice-class ships still had the Lawn Club in October 2026.

How big is Celebrity Solstice?

About 121,878 gross tons and 1,041 feet long, with about 2,852 guests and 1,250 crew. That makes it mid-size by today’s standards.

How do I find cheap Celebrity Solstice cruises?

In our October 2026 snapshot, the lowest Solstice fares were on the 5-night Alaska cruise from Vancouver in May 2027, the early-season 7-night Alaska cruises in May, and a 4-night Tasmania cruise from Sydney in October 2027. An inside cabin cuts the fare further. Prices are a dated snapshot, so check the current fare before you book.
