The MSC fleet by class and size

MSC’s ships fall into clear generations. The newest classes are huge, resort-style ships; the older ones are mid-size and mostly sail in Europe, South America and South Africa. For U.S. sailings you will usually be choosing between the World, Meraviglia and Seaside classes. The lists below run from largest to smallest.

World class (largest)

Two more World-class ships are close. MSC World Asia, the third, is due for delivery in late November 2026 and starts seven-night western Mediterranean cruises from Barcelona on December 4, 2026, before moving to the Southern Caribbean (from Martinique, Guadeloupe and Barbados) for winter 2027–28. MSC World Atlantic follows in November 2027, sailing year-round from Port Canaveral. Four more World-class ships are on order for delivery by 2031.

Guest figures marked “up to” are maximum occupancy, which counts every bunk and sofa bed; a typical sailing carries fewer. Where we couldn’t confirm a guest count from a reliable source we give the ship’s gross tonnage instead: the Meraviglia-class ships are about 170,000–184,000 tons, the Fantasia class about 138,000–139,000, the Musica class about 92,000–95,000 and the Lirica class about 65,500.

Where MSC sails by season

• All year, Caribbean and Bahamas: MSC’s U.S. program is based mostly in Florida. In winter 2026–27 that means MSC World America, MSC Seaside and MSC Poesia from Miami, MSC Grandiosa and MSC Seashore from Port Canaveral, and MSC Seascape from Galveston. Most itineraries include Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve, the line’s private island in the Bahamas.
• New York: MSC Meraviglia made MSC’s last New York cruise in April 2026. A planned 2026–27 New York winter was replaced by Caribbean sailings from Miami, and no return has been announced. For the lines that do sail from New York, see our New York cruise port guide.
• April to November, Mediterranean: the heart of MSC’s program. Ships sail seven-night loops from many ports, including Barcelona, Rome (Civitavecchia), Genoa and Marseille, so you can often board where your flight is cheapest.
• Summer, Northern Europe: Norwegian fjords and Northern European capitals, on round trips from ports in northern Europe. Check the embarkation port for your dates, since MSC often offers the same route from more than one port.
• Winter elsewhere: South America and South Africa. MSC has sailed the Arabian Gulf from Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Doha in past winters, but it cancelled its 2026–27 Middle East season (MSC World Europa moved to the Caribbean and MSC Seaview to South America), and World Europa’s planned 2027–28 Gulf season was replaced by the Mediterranean.
• Summer, Alaska: new for MSC. MSC Poesia sailed the line’s first Alaska season from Seattle in 2026 and returns in 2027 and 2028 on weekly seven-night cruises to Ketchikan, Icy Strait Point, Juneau, Tracy Arm and Victoria. It is one mid-size ship, so compare it with the established Alaska lines in our best cruise lines for Alaska.

What’s included and what’s extra

Included in every fare: the main dining room, the buffet, most shows and activities, pools and kids’ clubs.

Depends on the fare type: MSC sells tiered fares, which it calls experiences. The cheapest covers the cabin and food, and the cruise line picks your cabin; higher tiers add perks such as choosing your own cabin, drinks offers, dining flexibility or a free change to your booking. What each tier includes changes over time, so check the list for your sailing and compare fare types, not just headline prices, before you compare MSC with another line.

Always extra: specialty restaurants, most drinks outside a package, the daily service charge, shore excursions, the spa and some attractions on the biggest ships.

MSC Yacht Club: a ship-within-a-ship of suites with its own restaurant, lounge, pool and butler service. It is the main reason some cruisers who normally sail premium lines book MSC.

Who owns MSC Cruises?

MSC Group, the privately owned, Geneva-based company behind Mediterranean Shipping Company, one of the world’s largest container shipping lines. The same group owns the luxury brand Explora Journeys.

What are the biggest MSC cruise ships?

The World-class ships, MSC World Europa and MSC World America (joined by MSC World Asia in December 2026 and MSC World Atlantic in November 2027), are the biggest, carrying up to about 6,760 guests at full occupancy. The Meraviglia and Seaside classes come next. The Lirica-class ships are the smallest in the fleet at around 2,000 guests.

What is the best MSC cruise ship?

For most U.S. cruisers, MSC World America: it is the newest ship and was designed for American passengers. If it doesn’t sail your dates, MSC Seascape and MSC Seashore are the best of the ships that regularly sail the Caribbean.

Is MSC a good choice for American cruisers?

Yes, if you go in knowing the style. U.S. sailings have more Americans on board than MSC’s European cruises, but announcements, dining times and service are more international than on Carnival or Royal Caribbean. Budget for drinks, Wi-Fi and the service charge unless your fare includes them.

Does MSC sail to Alaska?

Yes, since 2026. MSC Poesia sails seven-night Alaska cruises from Seattle each summer, with seasons on sale through 2028. It is a single mid-size ship, so Norwegian, Royal Caribbean, Princess and Holland America offer far more Alaska dates and routes.
