New York’s three cruise terminals

The New York cruise port is really three ports, two in the city and one across the harbor in New Jersey. Your booking confirmation names the terminal. Check it every time, because lines move ships between them.

Manhattan Cruise Terminal

Season

Year round, with the most departures from spring to fall

Broadly, Norwegian and Carnival use Manhattan, Princess uses Brooklyn, and Royal Caribbean and Celebrity use Cape Liberty. Virgin Voyages moved its 2026 New York sailings from Manhattan to Brooklyn, but Valiant Lady’s last New York departure is 19 October 2026 and the line has no New York sailings announced for 2027. MSC, which sailed year round from Brooklyn, left New York in April 2026 and has no New York sailings announced.

Manhattan cruise terminal parking and getting there

• Parking: parking is on site, on the pier roofs, run by ProPark for NYCEDC. NYCEDC lists $45 a night, taxes included, payable by credit card only on arrival (rate checked September 2026). You can reserve a space, but the port says parking isn’t guaranteed. All cars enter at 55th Street and 12th Avenue, and the height limit is about 8 feet.
• Transit: the closest subway is Columbus Circle (A, C, B, D and 1 trains), then a walk west to 12th Avenue. The M57 and M31 buses run nearby. With luggage, a taxi or rideshare is easier.
• From the airports: LaGuardia is usually the quickest by car, and NYCEDC lists a flat yellow-cab fare from JFK. From Newark, allow plenty of time for traffic.

Brooklyn cruise terminal

Red Hook has no subway stop close by. The NYC Ferry’s South Brooklyn route stops at Red Hook, and the B61 bus from Borough Hall stops about four blocks from the terminal, but with luggage most people take a taxi, a rideshare or drive. Parking is in an outdoor, secured lot next to the terminal, also run by ProPark. NYCEDC lists $45 a night (checked September 2026), paid on arrival by cash or card, and says reservations aren’t needed, though you can make one.

Cape Liberty cruise port parking and getting there

• Parking: Cape Liberty has a garage next to the terminal, with an open lot beside it for vehicles over the 7-foot-4 height limit. You pay by the day for the length of the cruise, on arrival, by cash or card. Royal Caribbean says no reservation is needed and parking is guaranteed, and its daily rate is usually lower than Manhattan’s.
• From Newark Airport: Newark is the closest airport, about 9 miles away by the New Jersey Turnpike and Route 440.
• By transit: take PATH to Jersey City or Hoboken, then the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail to 34th Street in Bayonne. The station is about two miles from the terminal, so you still need a taxi for the last stretch.

Five major lines run regular sailings from the three terminals in 2026–2027, and Disney adds a short season in fall 2027. Cunard’s Queen Mary 2 transatlantic crossings also leave from Brooklyn. The table below shows sample sailings from our monthly snapshot.

Best cruises from New York by season

• Spring and summer (roughly April to October): Bermuda. The classic trip from New York. Most sailings are 5 to 7 nights with two or three days docked in Bermuda. In 2027, Norwegian Luna’s Bermuda season from New York starts in April and Celebrity’s runs from May to mid-June.
• September and October: Canada and New England. Fall foliage trips call at ports such as Boston, Portland, Bar Harbor and Halifax. They’re the most popular sailings of the year from New York, so book early.
• Year round: the Bahamas, Florida and the Caribbean. Seven nights or longer, with two days at sea each way. In winter the choice narrows: Royal Caribbean’s Odyssey of the Seas runs 7- and 8-night Bahamas trips from Cape Liberty in winter 2026–27, while Carnival and Norwegian move their New York ships south. The first and last days are cold, and the seas off Cape Hatteras can be rough.
• Short trips: Carnival Venezia ran 4-night Canada trips from Manhattan in summer 2026, and Royal Caribbean’s Independence of the Seas offers 4-night Canada trips from Cape Liberty, alongside 5-night Bermuda sailings. See our short cruise guide.

Three insider picks

1. Choose the line by terminal if you’re driving. If you live in New Jersey or west of the Hudson, Cape Liberty is usually the easier drive and the cheaper parking. From Long Island or Queens, Brooklyn or Manhattan may be closer. Two similar fares can end up a lot further apart once you add parking and tolls.

2. Bermuda is where New York shines. A Bermuda cruise from New York gives you more time on the island than you get on most Caribbean trips from here. The ship docks for two or three days, so it acts as your hotel. It’s the one itinerary we’d book from New York over flying south.

3. Don’t miss the sailaway. Ships from all three terminals leave through the harbor and under the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge, and from Manhattan you sail down the Hudson past Lower Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty. Brooklyn’s terminal looks straight across the bay at Lower Manhattan and the statue. Board early and be on an outside deck when the ship leaves.

Which New York cruise port does my ship use?

Your booking confirmation and boarding pass name the terminal. Manhattan is on the Hudson in Midtown, Brooklyn is in Red Hook, and Cape Liberty is in Bayonne, New Jersey. Lines sometimes move ships between terminals, so don’t rely on a past trip.

How much is Cape Liberty cruise port parking?

About $30 a day for a car or SUV (reported October 2025), with higher rates for RVs and minibuses. You pay for the length of the cruise at the garage next to the terminal, on arrival, and no reservation is needed. That’s less than the $45 a night NYCEDC lists for Manhattan (checked September 2026). Rates change, so check your line’s port page before you go.

Do I need a passport for a cruise from New York?

On a round trip that starts and ends in New York, U.S. citizens can sail with a birth certificate and government-issued photo ID, because it’s a closed-loop cruise under CBP rules.
