Norwegian Jewel cruise ship: who it suits, where it sails and which cabin to book
The Norwegian Jewel cruise ship is best booked for its route, above all the Baltic in summer 2027. It's a mid-size 2005 ship for about 2,368 guests, refitted in 2025, with Caribbean cruises from Miami in winter and seven- to nine-night Baltic trips from Copenhagen and Helsinki. Skip it if you want slides and go-karts.
Book it if
- You want the Baltic in 2027 or 2028, including first-time calls at Klaipeda, Riga and Gdynia.
- You'd like nine or ten nights in the Southern Caribbean from Miami.
- You prefer a mid-size ship to NCL's 4,000-guest ships.
Skip it if
- You want big-ship attractions. Norwegian Prima or Aqua are the better picks.
- You want Alaska. Our snapshot shows no Jewel sailings there through September 2028.
- You want a brand-new feel. A refit doesn't change the 2005 layout.

Part of the Norwegian Cruise Line fleet. Sister ships: Norwegian Gem, Norwegian Pearl. Home ports: Miami, Copenhagen, Helsinki, Southampton, Barcelona.
Norwegian Jewel is the first of the four Jewel-class ships. Meyer Werft built it at Papenburg, Germany. It was completed in August 2005 and entered service that December. It’s 965 feet long. NCL gives 2,368 guests, while Wikipedia says 2,394 and CruiseMapper 2,388 to 2,866. The lower figures are double occupancy, so a full ship can carry more.
Who it suits
Port-focused cruisers. Jewel’s value is where it goes. In 2027 that means a full Baltic season, its first full European season in over a decade.
Couples and older travelers. A ship this size has fewer crowds than the 4,000-guest NCL ships, and it keeps a traditional mix of shows, bars and a casino.
Long-cruise fans. Most winter sailings run 9 to 12 nights in the Southern Caribbean, which is unusual from Miami, where short trips dominate.
Who should look elsewhere: families who want a water park. Our family cruise guide has stronger picks, and Norwegian Prima has slides and a race track.
What changed in Norwegian Jewel’s 2025 refit?
Norwegian Jewel’s latest drydock ran from September 25 to October 15, 2025, at Marseille. The headline change is the adults-only Vibe Beach Club on Deck 14, with 54 premium loungers, seven private cabanas, a hot tub and a full-service bar. It replaced a second sundeck.
Vibe is for guests 18 and over and needs a paid pass, so check the fee when booking. The last big cabin update was in 2018, when all staterooms got new TVs, USB outlets, carpets and furniture. That refit also added the Bliss Ultra Lounge and the Pit Stop bar.
Standout features
- Vibe Beach Club: the adults-only sun deck added in 2025.
- Bliss Ultra Lounge: the ship’s late-night venue.
- Bar City: a cluster of beer, whisky, martini and champagne bars, including Magnum’s Wine Bar and Maltings Beer & Whisky Bar.
- Mandara Spa: spa and salon, plus a Thermal Suite.
- The Haven: suite-only area on Decks 14 and 15, with a courtyard for villa guests.
Norwegian Jewel cabins to pick and avoid
The best cabin on Norwegian Jewel for most guests is a midship balcony on Deck 9 or 10, which CruiseMapper’s deck plan titles show as cabin decks. Baltic cruisers get the most from the balcony. Winter cruisers on a budget can take an inside cabin, though ten nights is a long time without a window.
Pick:
- A midship balcony on Deck 9 or 10 for the Baltic or the Southern Caribbean.
- An oceanview cabin if a balcony fare is out of reach. CruiseMapper counts 243 oceanview cabins against 360 balconies.
- The Haven for a private sundeck area. Its largest suite is a three-bedroom Garden Villa of about 2,320 square feet.
Avoid or think twice:
- Deck 11 cabins directly under the Deck 12 pools, which can hear deck noise.
- Deck 8 cabins close to O’Sheehan’s.
- Cabins at the far forward or aft ends if you get seasick.
Traveling alone? NCL’s ship page lists solo staterooms, but CruiseMapper’s cabin breakdown doesn’t show a Studio category. Confirm what’s on sale, and see our best cruises for singles guide.
Dining and activities
The included restaurants are Azura, Chin Chin and Tsar’s Palace, plus the Garden Café buffet, O’Sheehan’s and Topsiders. Specialty restaurants are Cagney’s Steakhouse, Le Bistro, La Cucina, Moderno Churrascaria and Teppanyaki, and they carry a charge.
Activities are simple: a climbing wall, sports court, jogging track, golf nets and shuffleboard, with three pools and eight hot tubs. Splash Academy and the Entourage teen club are NCL’s kids’ programs. The Norwegian Cruise Line guide explains the fare bundles, and our Norwegian review covers what the line does well.
Where does Norwegian Jewel sail in 2026–2027?
Norwegian Jewel sails from Miami until May 2027, mostly on 10-night Southern Caribbean cruises, then crosses to Europe. From June to September 2027 it runs seven- to ten-night Baltic cruises between Copenhagen and Helsinki. It returns to Miami in November 2027, and CruiseBound lists a second Baltic season in 2028.
- November 2026 to May 2027, Miami: 9- to 12-night Southern Caribbean cruises, plus a few four- and five-night trips. See our Caribbean cruise guide and Bahamas guide.
- May 2027, repositioning: CruiseBound lists a 15-night crossing from Miami, then a nine-night sailing from Southampton.
- June to September 2027, Baltic: one-way sailings between Copenhagen and Helsinki, so plan flights into one city and out of the other. NCL says Klaipeda, Riga and Gdynia are first-time calls. See our Northern Europe cruise guide.
- Late September 2027, repositioning: 14- and 17-night sailings from Southampton.
- November 2027 to April 2028, Miami: Southern Caribbean cruises and an 11-night Panama Canal trip. See our Panama Canal guide.
- April to September 2028, Europe: CruiseBound lists sailings from Barcelona, then Southampton, Copenhagen and Helsinki. See our Europe cruise guide.

Does Norwegian Jewel sail to Alaska?
No, not on any sailing in our November 2026 snapshot, which runs through September 2028. Jewel has sailed Alaska in the past, including seven-day trips from Seattle in 2014. For NCL in Alaska now, see our best cruise lines for Alaska ranking.
Sister ships
Norwegian Jewel’s sisters are Norwegian Jade, Norwegian Gem and Norwegian Pearl. All four share the same basic layout. Jewel opened NCL’s Philadelphia program in 2026, and Pearl has taken over there. For how NCL compares with its main rival, see Norwegian vs Royal Caribbean.
