The Disney Wonder was built by Fincantieri in Marghera, Italy, and took its maiden voyage on August 15, 1999, a year after its sister, the Disney Magic. It has 875 staterooms and holds up to about 2,700 guests with every berth filled. A 2016 refit at Navantia in Cádiz, Spain, added a “ducktail” extension at the stern and updated the cabins, restaurants and spa. A 2019 dry dock added the French Quarter Lounge, a New Orleans-style family lounge themed to The Princess and the Frog, and redesigned the Vibe teen club, Cove Café and the Royal Suites.

Who it suits

West Coast families. Short San Diego sailings are the easiest way to try Disney Cruise Line from California, and our short cruise guide compares them with other three- to five-night trips.

Families who want Alaska. The Wonder and the Magic are Disney’s only Alaska ships in 2026 and 2027.

Smaller-ship fans. With under 3,000 guests at full capacity, the Wonder is easier to get around than the 4,000-guest ships.

Who should look elsewhere: those booking for the ship. The Disney Destiny and the other Wish-class ships have far more on board.

Standout features

• Rotational dining across Tiana’s Place (Southern and Cajun food), Triton’s and Animator’s Palate.
• Palo, the adults-only Italian restaurant, which carries an extra charge.
• Shows in the Walt Disney Theatre, including Frozen, A Musical Spectacular.
• Pools: family and kids’ pools, a splash area with a small slide, a toddler splash zone and an adults-only pool.
• Kids’ clubs: a nursery, the Oceaneer Club for ages 3 to 10, Edge for 11 to 14 and Vibe for 14 to 17.

Cabins to pick, cabins to avoid

Pick:

• Midship verandah rooms with staterooms above and below. On Alaska sailings a verandah is the best way to watch glaciers and wildlife from your room.
• Rooms 6134, 6634, 7120 and 7620, which cabin guides and past guests on both the Magic and the Wonder report have open verandahs despite being sold as Navigator’s Verandahs, a partly enclosed category.

Avoid or think twice:

• Deck 8 rooms directly below the pool deck (DCL Guide flags these), where deck chairs are moved early in the morning.
• Far forward and aft rooms if you get seasick; parts of the Pacific route to Mexico and the open-water stretches to Alaska can be rougher than the Caribbean.

Dining and activities

Rotational dining, the buffet, quick-service food and soft drinks at the drink stations are included. Alcohol, Palo, Wi-Fi, gratuities, spa and shore excursions are extra, as across the Disney fleet. In Alaska, excursions such as glacier or whale-watching tours are a large share of the trip’s cost; budget for them early.

Disney Wonder cruise ship itinerary 2026–2027

• October 2026 to April 2027: San Diego. Three- to seven-night Baja and Mexican Riviera cruises to ports such as Ensenada and Cabo San Lucas. That includes the Christmas and New Year sailings; see our Christmas cruise picks.
• Summer 2027: Disney Wonder Alaska cruises from Vancouver. Seven-night sailings starting in May.
• Fall 2027 to spring 2028: San Diego. Three- to seven-night cruises to ports such as Ensenada, Cabo San Lucas and Catalina Island.

The Wonder’s sister is the Disney Magic (1998). They share a layout, with different restaurants: the Magic has Lumière’s and Rapunzel’s Royal Table where the Wonder has Triton’s and Tiana’s Place.
