Celebrity Millennium cruise ship: where it sails and who it suits
Celebrity Millennium is the oldest ship in Celebrity's fleet, a 2000 Millennium-class ship for about 2,200 guests. Through 2026–2027 it stays in Asia: Japan from Tokyo (Yokohama) from spring to fall, and Bali, Malaysia and Thailand from Singapore in winter. It returns to Alaska from Vancouver in summer 2028. Book it for Asia on a mid-size ship.
Book it if
- You want a 12-night Japan cruise from Tokyo, including cherry-blossom, Golden Week or Gion Festival sailings.
- You want Bali, Malaysia and Thailand in one trip, on 11- to 14-night cruises between Singapore and Bali.
- You prefer a ship of about 2,200 guests over Celebrity's 3,000-guest Edge-class ships.
Skip it if
- You want Alaska in 2026 or 2027; Millennium is in Asia until its 2028 season from Vancouver.
- You want the Magic Carpet, the Lawn Club or other features of Celebrity's newer ships.
- You want a 3- to 5-night trip; nearly all its sailings are 7 nights or longer.

Chantiers de l’Atlantique in Saint-Nazaire, France, built Millennium as the lead ship of the Millennium class. It was launched on November 7, 1999, delivered on June 22, 2000, and christened in Southampton four days later. Its maiden voyage left Amsterdam for the Baltic on July 1, 2000. It was the first cruise ship with a combined gas and steam turbine power plant, and Wikipedia calls it the oldest ship still sailing for Celebrity.
Celebrity lists 11 decks, a capacity of 2,218 guests and a length of 965 feet. Wikipedia gives 90,963 gross tons and a crew of up to 999. A 35-day dry dock in Singapore in early 2019 added 30 cabins, and Celebrity’s ship page also refers to a 2024 modernization.

Does Celebrity Millennium sail to Alaska?
Not in 2026 or 2027. Celebrity Millennium returns to Alaska in summer 2028, with 7-night sailings from Vancouver between mid-May and mid-September. They alternate between a Hubbard Glacier route and a Dawes Glacier route through the Inside Passage. In September 2028 it crosses back to Tokyo.
If you want Alaska sooner, Celebrity Summit is the same size and sails there in 2026 and 2027. Our Vancouver cruise port guide covers the terminal, and our best cruise lines for Alaska ranking compares Celebrity with the other lines.
Who it suits
Travelers heading to Japan or Southeast Asia. Millennium’s long Asia cruises give you many ports in one trip, with Celebrity’s dining and service.
Couples and older travelers. The ship is built around restaurants, bars, the spa and the theater, with fewer crowds than Celebrity’s bigger ships.
Suite travelers who want value. The Retreat gives suite guests a private restaurant, lounge and sundeck on a ship that usually prices below Celebrity’s Edge class.
Who should look elsewhere: anyone who wants the newest design or big attractions. Families can use Camp at Sea, the kids’ program, but our family cruise picks have more for children.
What is inside Celebrity Millennium?
- The Retreat: the suite area, with its own restaurant, lounge and sundeck.
- The Metropolitan Restaurant, the main dining room, with menus that change nightly.
- Tuscan Grille and Le Petit Chef, a dinner with animated projections on the table.
- Sushi on Five with live music at the Passport Bar, plus the Martini Bar and the Sunset Bar.
- The Solarium, an adults-only pool under a glass roof, and the Persian Garden, with heated loungers.
- The Theatre, the casino, the Sky Lounge and the Rooftop Terrace.
The main dining room and the buffet are included; some specialty restaurants carry a charge. Drinks, Wi-Fi and crew tips are extra unless you book an All Included fare. Our Celebrity line guide explains the fares.
Celebrity Millennium cabins: which to pick and which to avoid
Millennium has inside, ocean-view, veranda, Concierge Class and AquaClass cabins, plus Sky, Aqua Sky, Celebrity, Royal and Penthouse suites. Deck 9, the highest cabin deck, sits entirely under public areas on Deck 10.
Pick:
- Midship veranda cabins on a deck with cabins above and below, for the least noise and motion.
- Deck 9 cabins 9012, 9015, 9028 and 9033 if you want a balcony clear of the large overhang from the deck above.
- Aft-facing veranda cabins for big balconies that stay warmer in cold weather, which helps in Alaska in 2028. Cabins above can see down onto part of them.
- AquaClass if you plan to use the spa and the Persian Garden.
Avoid or think twice:
- Deck 9 cabins under the busy parts of Deck 10: aft under the terrace, midship under the pool grill and forward under the fitness center.
- Cabins 9094 and 9100, which have small, irregular balconies, and 9086 and 9088, partly blocked by a window-cleaning platform.
- Aft corner cabins 9156 and 9197, whose balconies have solid steel sides and can be seen from the terrace above.
- The first few forward balconies and indented cabins that look down on the lifeboats.
Sister ships
Millennium’s sisters are Celebrity Infinity (2001), Celebrity Summit (2001) and Celebrity Constellation (2002). They share its size and layout. Infinity stays in Europe, Summit sails Alaska and the Caribbean, and Constellation splits its year between San Juan and Italy, so Millennium is the one to pick for Asia.
