Disney Alaska cruise 2026–2027: ships, routes and whether it's worth it

Is a Disney cruise to Alaska worth it?

For families with young kids, usually yes. The things that make Disney worth its price in the Caribbean matter even more in Alaska, where there are more sea days and colder decks: the kids’ clubs, rotational dining with the same servers every night, the stage shows and the characters. Parents get a real break on the long scenic days, and children who would be bored watching coastline for hours have somewhere to go.

For everyone else, probably not. Disney sends its two oldest and smallest ships, Magic and Wonder, which have far fewer attractions than the Wish class. Fares usually run well above Royal Caribbean or Carnival for a similar week. And Disney isn’t one of the six lines the National Park Service allows into Glacier Bay, so its glacier day is somewhere else.

Disney ships in Alaska for 2026 and 2027

Disney Magic and Disney Wonder both sail Alaska from Vancouver in summer 2026 and again in summer 2027. They are sisters with the same layout, about 1,750 guests at double occupancy (about 2,700 with every berth full), and they’re the only Disney ships to go to Alaska.

The two ships differ mainly in their restaurants: the Wonder has Tiana’s Place and Triton’s in its dining rotation, the Magic has Rapunzel’s Royal Table and Lumière’s. Either is fine for Alaska; pick by date and itinerary.

Disney Alaska itineraries and ports

Every Disney Alaska cruise is a round trip from Vancouver through the Inside Passage. There are no one-way Gulf of Alaska sailings, so no Hubbard-and-College-Fjord route and no Whittier or Seward.

Every 2027 sailing includes a glacier day that Disney lists as “Glacier Viewing (Stikine Icecap)”: the ship sails up an icy fjord to one of the glaciers that flow off the Stikine Icecap, south of Juneau. Disney doesn’t name the fjord in its itineraries.

Seven nights, Disney Wonder. Skagway, Juneau and Ketchikan plus the glacier day. This is the classic Inside Passage week.

Seven nights, Disney Magic. Skagway, Icy Strait Point and Ketchikan plus the glacier day. Icy Strait Point replaces Juneau: it’s quieter, and it’s one of the better whale-watching stops on the route. If Juneau’s excursions (the Mendenhall Glacier, flightseeing) matter to you, book the Wonder.

Eight nights (Disney Magic, July 22, 2027). The Magic’s seven-night route plus Sitka.

Six nights (Disney Magic, July 30, 2027). Icy Strait Point and Ketchikan plus the glacier day, with no Skagway. A shorter option for families with limited vacation days.

Check the exact ports for your date before booking; excursions such as whale watching, the White Pass railway in Skagway and glacier flightseeing in Juneau are where most of the extra Alaska spend goes.

Departing from Vancouver

All Disney Alaska cruises leave from Vancouver, British Columbia, from the Canada Place cruise terminal downtown. The Wonder has been based there since it returned to Vancouver in 2013, and 2026 was the first year the Magic joined it. Because the trip starts in Canada, every guest needs a passport to fly in, including children. Families in the Pacific Northwest can also drive up from Seattle. What’s different about Disney in Alaska

• No Glacier Bay. Disney isn’t a Glacier Bay concessioner; the Park Service lists only Princess, Holland America, Norwegian, Cunard, Seabourn and Viking. Disney’s glacier day is in a fjord instead, which can be just as dramatic but is narrated by the ship, not a park ranger.
• No cruisetours. Unlike Princess or Holland America, Disney Cruise Line sells only round trips from Vancouver, with no Denali land extension. If Denali is on your list, a Princess or Holland America cruisetour is the simpler way to do both.
• Smaller, older ships. Fewer attractions than the Wish-class ships, but more manageable for small children, and a verandah on a midship deck is worth the upgrade for glacier day.
• Same inclusions as elsewhere. Main dining, soft drinks and kids’ clubs are included; alcohol, Palo, Wi-Fi, gratuities and shore excursions are extra.

Disney Alaska cruise FAQ

When does the Disney Alaska cruise season run?

From May to September. In 2027 Disney Wonder starts on May 10 and the last sailings leave in mid-September. June to August is warmest; May and September are usually cheaper. See our Alaska guide for each month.

Which Disney ship goes to Alaska in 2027?

Disney Magic and Disney Wonder, both round trip from Vancouver. The Wonder sails only seven-night trips with Juneau; the Magic’s seven-night trips swap Juneau for Icy Strait Point, and it adds one six-night and one eight-night sailing in July.

Does the Disney Alaska cruise go to Glacier Bay?

No. Only six lines hold National Park Service permits for Glacier Bay, and Disney isn’t one of them. Disney’s glacier day is scenic cruising in a fjord to a glacier off the Stikine Icecap, south of Juneau.

Do you need a passport for a Disney cruise to Alaska?
