Holidays and school breaks

Presidents’ Day (Washington’s Birthday on the federal calendar) is Monday, February 15, 2027. Many school districts in the Northeast take a mid-February winter break around it, which makes that week one of the busiest of the winter for family-friendly ships and short sailings. Outside that week, February demand is steadier, though it stays high season across the tropics. If you can travel in January instead, fares usually sit a little lower once the New Year week is over; see our January 2027 cruise guide.

Hawaii in whale season

Humpback whales are in Hawaiian waters from November through April, and NOAA’s sanctuary says they can be seen from shore and at sea across that stretch. February sits in the busiest part of the season, so a Hawaii cruise this month is one of the better bets for sightings. Our Hawaii cruise guide covers the round trips and the longer sailings from the West Coast.

Panama Canal and the Caribbean

February is dry season along the Panama Canal and across most of the Caribbean, with the Atlantic hurricane season long over. For line-by-line picks, see our Caribbean cruise guide and Panama Canal cruise guide.

February cruise FAQ

Is February a good time to cruise?

Yes. It’s the heart of the dry season in the Caribbean, Mexico and the Panama Canal, and whale season in Hawaii.

Are cruises expensive in February?

Fares are higher than in the fall because it’s high season, and the Presidents’ Day and school-break weeks cost the most.

Other months: January, March. See every month on our cruises by month page.
