The Cruising Insider

Uniworld river cruises reviews 2026–2027: is Uniworld worth the price?

Uniworld is worth the price if you want a river cruise where almost everything is in the fare, on a small ship decorated like a boutique hotel. Drinks, excursions, gratuities and Wi-Fi are included. Skip it if you want the lowest river fare or a plain, modern ship: Uniworld costs more than most river lines, and its interiors are deliberately ornate.

Book it if

  • You want drinks included all day, not only with meals. Wine, beer, spirits and cocktails are part of the fare.
  • You want tips settled before you go. Gratuities for the onboard staff and local guides are included.
  • You want a newer ship. S.S. Emilie joined in 2026, and three more Super Ships arrive in 2027.

Skip it if

  • You want the lowest price on the Rhine or the Danube. Lines that include less cost less.
  • You dislike ornate decor. Each Uniworld ship is themed, with chandeliers, art and rich fabrics.
  • You want sea days, pools and shows. River ships don't have the room.

Uniworld ships

Uniworld calls its newest and refitted ships Super Ships. Each has its own decorative theme. S.S. Emilie, for example, is a tribute to the painter Gustav Klimt and is named after his partner and muse, Emilie Flöge. Uniworld says the 2027 ships complete its move to an all-Super Ship fleet.

Build years and guest counts come from the fleet table on Wikipedia. Uniworld’s own fleet pages blocked our checks in October 2026, so confirm a ship’s details when you book.

New Uniworld ships for 2027 and 2028

Uniworld’s CEO, Ellen Bettridge, told Cruise Industry News in October 2026 that 2027 and 2028 are among the biggest investment years in the line’s history. S.S. Audrey and S.S. Marlene, with interiors inspired by Audrey Hepburn and Marlene Dietrich, and S.S. São Rafael on the Douro arrive in 2027. Helen (Danube), Clara (Rhine) and Mekong Mystique follow in 2028, which takes the fleet to 22 ships. Uniworld also charters Aqua Expeditions’ yacht Aqua Blu for two 2027 sailings to Indonesia and Singapore.

What Uniworld’s fare includes

Uniworld’s US site wasn’t readable for our checks, so this list follows a summary published by The Cruise Web, a cruise seller, in January 2026. Check your booking before you count on any item.

  • Meals: breakfast, lunch and dinner, with regional menus, and 24-hour room service.
  • Drinks: unlimited wine, spirits, cocktails, beer, soft drinks, specialty coffee, tea and bottled water. Ultra-premium drinks cost extra.
  • Excursions: included in every port of call. The Masterpiece Collection tours are optional extras.
  • Gratuities: included for the onboard staff and local guides.
  • Wi-Fi: included, although the speed varies along the rivers.
  • Transfers: airport transfers on embarkation and disembarkation days, but only when you buy your flights from Uniworld.
  • Suites: a butler, a stocked mini-bar and a daily in-room treat.
  • Also included: fitness classes, bikes and Nordic walking sticks to borrow, and a laundry room.

What costs extra: spa treatments, shopping, optional tours, pre- and post-cruise land stays, and flights.

For how this compares with ocean lines, see our all-inclusive cruise guide.

Is Uniworld worth the price?

Uniworld is worth the price if you would otherwise pay for drinks during the day, tips and a few excursions on a cheaper river line. Add those to a rival’s fare before you compare. It is less good value if you drink little, skip most tours, or don’t care about decor. Then a line that includes less will cost you less.

Most Uniworld river cruise reviews turn on three things:

  • The decor. Each ship is themed, from Klimt on S.S. Emilie to Hollywood stars on the 2027 ships. Some travelers love it; others find it too much.
  • The fare. Drinks all day, excursions and tips are in the price, so the bill at the end is small. The fare at the start is high.
  • The size. Ships average about 120 guests, which makes the ships quiet and the tour groups small.

Where Uniworld sails in 2026 and 2027

Uniworld river cruises in Europe

Europe is most of the business. Uniworld sails the Danube, the Rhine, the Main and the Douro, among others. Cruise Industry News lists the 2027 newbuilds for these four rivers. Its cruises run from 8 days up to its long Rivers of the World voyages, and it sells pre- and post-cruise land stays in Paris, Prague and Zurich. To choose between the rivers, see our European river cruises guide.

Themed sailings

Uniworld sells Jewish Heritage cruises, Holiday Season cruises, family sailings in its Generations Collection timed for school breaks, and a Women-Only Cruise, launched in 2025 and returning in 2027. It also runs wine, golf and music themes. For Christmas-market sailings, see our Christmas and New Year cruise guide; for family trips, our family cruise guide.

Beyond Europe

The Cruise Web lists the included gratuities for onboard staff and local guides without exceptions, but ask about tips on cruises outside Europe, where the ships are chartered.

How Uniworld compares

  • Against Viking: Viking has far more ships and dates, and includes a shore excursion in each port. Uniworld also includes drinks all day and tips, on smaller, more decorated ships.
  • Against AmaWaterways and Avalon: AmaWaterways includes wine and beer with meals, excursions and Wi-Fi. Avalon Waterways wins on the standard cabin, a 200-square-foot suite. Neither includes drinks all day as standard.
  • Our ranking: Uniworld is not yet ranked in our best river cruise lines list, because we couldn’t confirm its fare on its own site.
  • Against small ocean ships: our luxury and small-ship ranking covers ocean lines at a similar price, with sea days but fewer town-center docks.

Uniworld prices

Our monthly price snapshot covers sailings sold on CruiseBound, and Uniworld isn’t one of them, so this page shows no from-price. Three checks help when you compare:

  • Add up what’s included. Put drinks, tips, excursions and Wi-Fi on a rival’s bill before you compare it with Uniworld’s fare.
  • Ask about flights. Airport transfers are included only with flights bought from Uniworld.
  • Check the ship. A new Super Ship and a 1999 River-class ship can sail the same river, so confirm which one your date uses.
