We'll be on the Carnival Ecstacy next week, with a port of call in Progresso. I looked at different blog sites but they were written about a year ago and it seems Autoprogresospam is no longer in service, and we wanted to do the Reef Club Beach Resort. Any suggestions on other tour companies, other than the ships excursion, to contact? Is there anything recent as of 2009 about this tour?

Mizzanet,

We've only done a Progreso cruise excursion once, and we took the ship-coordinated bus tour to the Mayan ruins at Chichen Itza.  Don't have any inside info about the Reef Club.  But to be honest, on our stop, the water on the beach at Progreso wasn't very pretty, looked brownish like something you'd see in Galveston or off the coast of Louisiana.  So to me, this would probably not be your best stop for a beach excursion anyway.

If you're *at all* interested in Mayan ruins, I'd strongly suggest a visit to Chichen Itza while here.  You'll find an Excursion Review, with pictures, of Chichen Itza here on our site.  The El Castillo Pyramid is awe-inspiring.  And there are several other amazing structures to view.  Truly a world-clspam place to visit.

At any rate, enjoy your cruise!  Smiley

Smooth Sailing,

Well, we found the Auto Progresso guys and we booked the Reef Beach Club excursion and it was great!  It's not the beach right off the port in town, but we took a bus into town and from another bus we went to the resort about 40 minutes away. The water was very flat but clear and we saw lots of starfish. There was snacks to eat that were hot and tasty, and plenty of free drinks. The frozen pina coladas were great! The price was reasonable $45.00 adult, $19.00 child, over Carnival's, $74.00 adult, $64.00 child.
I would definately do this excursion again and I recommend for others also. You can book through www.autoprogressospam and email through info@autoprogresospam.

Sounds like a great cruise excursion for Progreso!

That'll be something to remember the next time we're there.  Glad to hear the water was pretty where they took you.  I was a little disappointed that the water around the port looked more like Galveston than the Caribbean.  Thanks for the review!  Grin
